Garlic Parmesean Breadsticks
I LOVE bread. I look for any excuse to have bread- and my kids know that any time we have pasta for dinner, breadsticks of some kind are a given. These remind me somewhat of the Pizza Factory breadsticks- just not wrapped around a skewer. The bottom of the breadsticks are nice and crispy with a pan-fried effect. Not incredibly healthy, but everyone needs to splurge now and then.
Recipe:
1 1/2 C warm water
1 Tbsp yeast
2 Tbsp sugar
3 1/2 C flour
1/2 tsp salt
Kosher salt
Garlic salt
Italian seasoning
Parmesan cheese
Melted butter
Mix water, yeast and sugar. Allow to stand for 10 minutes to make sure yeast is active (should appear somewhat foamy). Combine with sugar, flour and salt.
Knead for 3 minutes.
Let rest for 10 minutes.
Coat baking sheet generously with cooking spray. Roll out breadstick dough and cut into strips with a pizza cutter. Twist if desired. Place 1/2 inch apart on a baking sheet.
Let rise 1 hour (preheat oven to 375).
Bake 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter and immediately sprinkle with garlic salt, kosher slat, italian seasoning and parmesan cheese.
(feel free to experiment with other herbs. Rosemary, basil or thyme would also taste great!)
