Best Pie Crust
This is my favorite pie crust recipe, because it is so easy (only 4 ingredients!) and turns out great every time. We love eating it as a pie, or just brushing on some butter and sprinkling it with cinnamon and sugar before baking it.
Recipe: (Printable Recipe Here)
2 C flour
1 tsp salt
1 C shortening
1/2 C water
Before combining the ingredients, chill everything. I usually put a couple of ice cubes in the water to get it nice and cold, then remove the ice cubes and pour out any water in excess of the 1/2 C needed.
Combine the flour and salt. Cut in the shortening until it resembles fine crumbs. Stir in water until a ball forms. Don't over-mix. You want some shortening pieces separated to help keep the crust flaky.
Wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a couple of hours until it is no longer sticky (if you try to roll it out and skip this step, you will end up with a mess. Just trust me on this one).
Roll out and serve with your favorite pie!
To bake with cinnamon and sugar, place on baking sheet and bake at 375 until dough is fully cooked (about 8-10 minutes)
